Taking Environement
Certificate Program
Even during my military service, I had a strong desire to study the environment, especially after discovering the food waste problem within the military and encountering endangered animals and plants in the Demilitarized Zone.
Finding time to take online college credit courses on the environment was challenging, as I occasionally received unexpected calls for emergency military actions or programs. Despite these obstacles, I made every effort to complete the courses. In fact, this certificate program, which consisted of four environmental courses, deepened my passion for studying the environment and made my military life more meaningful.
Voicing for environment awreness
Creating a video to raise awareness about food waste, I have witnessed a severe level of food waste in the military. What shocked me even more was that much of the food never even reaches our tables due to simple miscalculations of the expected number of diners. I also realized that this kind of massive food waste is a chronic issue not only in the military but also in schools and fast food chains.
To raise awareness of this problem, I developed this video. I submitted it to various short film events, including the Seoul City Youth NGO Forum, where my work was shown to young teenage and college students. I hope my video will continue to resonate with their young minds, inspiring them to join in raising awareness about the food waste problem.
Participating in environment contest
Despite my limitations as an active duty soldier, I seized every possible opportunity to share my ideas about environmental causes. One contest that particularly caught my attention was "Together for Earth," organized by the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Korea. This contest asked me to choose a notable book on the environment and write a book review to be recommended to the general Korean public.
I selected a book titled "The World History of Waste" by a German author, who examined the problem of waste from a cross-period and cross-regional perspective. This experience not only deepened my understanding of environmental history but also strengthened my social commitment to promoting environmental causes through diverse platforms.
PUblishing books sharing my passion for environement
This book presents the environment, animals, and life sciences through the author’s unique perspective and original system of measurement. The author explains various phenomena happening in the world using both text and illustrations, helping readers understand the content visually and conceptually.
The book is divided into four chapters, each focusing on topics related to life sciences. In addition, elements from history, mathematics, and dictionaries are naturally integrated, offering readers an opportunity to view things from a fresh perspective beyond simple information.
By combining illustrations, text, and diverse academic elements, this book aims to introduce different ways of understanding the environment, life, and the world around us.
